Sapphire International School beyond academics activities

Leadership Skill

Our leadership programmes at SIS are rooted in a strong commitment to support students in their ongoing development as leaders. We inculcate leadership qualities in the students, by allowing them to take the lead in various activities and projects. We have 62 students who constitute the 'Student's Council', this council is an organizational representation of elected student representatives who look into various needs of students and address their concerns. They work hand in hand with the teachers in various fields to keep the flag of Sapphire flying high. The members of the student's council act as connecting points between the school authorities and students. In managing their roles and responsibilities, the leadership qualities in these students are nurtured.
Our council is headed by the School Captain, School Vice Captain followed by the Captains and House Vice Captains of the four Houses (Orion, Pegasus, Aquila & Centaurus), House Discipline Skipper, House Vice Discipline Skipper, House Co-curricular Skipper, House Vice Co-curricular Skipper, House Games and Sports Skipper, House Vice Games and Sports Skipper, House Assembly Skipper, House Vice Assembly Skipper, House Choir Skipper, House Mess Skipper, House Vice Mess Skipper and House Control crony. The aim is to provide the students with knowledge on their respective roles and responsibilities within the association, to expose them on the aspects of management and administration of the school and to prepare them spiritually, mentally and physically in facing the challenges and obstacles in order to make them community leaders in the future.

Our leadership activities help students to:

  • Become more self-aware
  • Identify improvement areas
  • Boost self-esteem and morale
  • Practice public confidence and expressing themselves clearly to others
  • Develop their organizational skills and the ability to manage others
  • Develop overall personality and promote 'can-do' attitudes.
  • Student Support

The curriculum leaves space for the school children to develop awareness and empathy for others by offering social and moral learning, such as: Student Council, and developing a global awareness through current affairs. These are fundamental to the learning and support the academic progress children make in their daily lessons. Extra-curricular activities are based around topics the children are learning in classes and workshops offer a great place to find inspiration. The school allows us to develop some more creativity and nurture talents each year in dance, drama and singing. Extracurricular clubs, run by professionals, are held at the school to offer more opportunities for those who wish to pursue an extra passion in the arts or any other creative field.

    Career Guidance

The school-leaving phase is a critical period in the life of a student. Appropriate career planning is vital to ensure that students are well informed about career options and that they are able to understand their own capabilities and align themselves with potential future career choices.
Making the right choice depends largely on a student's possessing a thorough knowledge of oneself as well as the work environment. Students should be clear about their interests, values, needs, aptitudes and abilities. The career guidance programme provides students with comprehensive career options and helps them to seek avenues that match their abilities. The Career Guidance and Counselling at SIS creates awareness among students, of the varied career options available to them.
    • The professional counsellor is available during the school working hours to assist students.
    • Students are provided with extensive information on the various courses available to them after schooling, in India and abroad.
    • Eminent dignitaries and guest speakers are invited to share their professional views on the pros and cons of various vocations.
    • The Guidance and Counselling cell also assists students in learning difficulties, behavioural development and adjustment problems.
    • A practical assistance is provided by counsellors to bridge the gap that exists in the protected school life and the world outside.

      Excursion & Field Trip

Excursions within India, with plans to do so abroad, constitute a regular feature of life at SIS. We aspire to widen the horizons of our students by taking them to places of historical and cultural importance, places related to great artistic as well as scientific and technological endeavours, factories and research centres, wild life sanctuaries, nationally important educational institutions, international schools and so on.

      Co-Curricular Activities

The ethos and spirit of Sapphire International School education is a complete, well- rounded education. At SIS sports and extra- curricular activities are as important a part of our curriculum as academics. It helps to develop self-confidence and self esteem of the students. Co-curricular activities reflect the diverse interest of the students and lead to all round development of them.
SIS considers not only the cognitive development of its students but also the other aspects of their personality as equally significant to be developed or nurtured. To enhance the students' all round development and to cultivate their varied interests, a strong academic foundation, is complemented with a rich selection of co-curricular activities. These activities form a regular part of the school curriculum and a spirit of healthy competition is generated through inter house, interclass and inter school competitions.

      Physical Education

The school aims to develop control, co-ordination and mastery of the body, learnt through action, sensation and observation. Opportunities are provided to grow and develop through dance, athletics, games and indoor, outdoor and adventurous activities.

      Clubs and Activities

In addition to academic achievement, we strive to provide experiences that contribute to the physical, social and emotional development of all our students. We offer a broad range of school clubs and initiatives designed to further enrich student life at SIS.

      Art and Design

The children are encouraged to be spontaneously creative, using a variety of media and techniques in art and craftwork. An awareness of colour, shape, balance, focus and proportion are developed alongside the use of symbols to convey ideas and feelings. The study of a wide range of artists, craftspeople and designers complements this work.

      Music

The teaching of music is based upon the fact that it is a creative and social art to be enjoyed. Children have the opportunity to enjoy musical experiences through listening, singing, movement and dance.

      Drama

This subject is used across the curriculum, to stimulate interest and to develop understanding and empathy in a variety of situations. Drama is a useful and versatile tool in the development of language and in building confidence. School plays and productions, allow the children to gain a sense of confidence for the skills they have acquired..
